Many of us have greatly anticipated the arrival of summer after a brutally cold and brutally long winter full of the white stuff that shall remain nameless until November and December roll around again. And now that summer is finally here, so is your summer to do list!
It’s time for some summer fun, but it’s also time to get the exterior of your home ready for the weather that this time of year brings. The quicker you move to get the least fun things over with, the quicker you can make it down your list to the fun things you can’t wait to do this year!
Here are some important things to do around the home before heading for that much-needed and much-deserved summer vacation this year:
In the Kitchen – In your home’s kitchen, you’ll want to clean the refrigerator’s coils and if you have a water or an ice maker, you’ll want to check the filters to see if they’re ready for a change.
Clean Ceiling Fans – If you have ceiling fans, now’s the time to make sure they’re dust-free because you’re going to need them. The last thing you want is dust flinging around the room with the cool air that you’re seeking.
Check Dryer Vents – If you have a dryer, you should do a quick check to see if the dryer’s vent or vent pipe needs cleaning. If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, you can hire a professional.
Deep Cleaning – If you’re looking forward to taking that well-deserved vacation this summer, before you leave give your home a deep clean. Pull out furniture, give everything a good thorough dusting, vacuum, and mopping.
Heating & Cooling Units – If you haven’t done so already, now’s the time to have your heating and cooling unit serviced. This is particularly important for the quality of air in your home. And if you have a central air system the last thing you want is for your cooling system to kick out on one of the hottest days of the summer.
Hot Water Heater – Have your hot water heater inspected to ensure that it’s working properly and that there are no hidden leaks.
Clean the Grill – Of course, it’s time to make sure the grill is ship shape and ready for firing up!
Pressure Washing the Exterior – Consider having the exterior of your home pressure washed to remove any remaining dirt from Fall, Winter, and Spring.
Gutters and Guards – Now’s the time to do some gutter cleaning and gutter guard cleaning. Keeping your gutters clean is important to ensure proper water drainage. When gutters aren’t working effectively, water can seep down into the foundation area of your house leading to problems such as mold, mildew, algae, and termites. Avoid all of these avoidable problems with gutter cleaning, gutter guard cleaning and making sure that downspouts are working effectively to redirect water away from the house. And don’t forget to add gutter guards before fall.
