“Screen” and “mesh” are often used interchangeably in conversations when discussing leaf guards to cover your gutters with.
It’s important to realize however that “screen” and “mesh” are two entirely different types of products. In the guttering and in the remodeling industry, a “screen” is a product made out of wire and found in a home improvement store. It’s a Do-It-Yourself installation. Unfortunately the wire is not very sturdy. It gets bent up pretty easily, and the resulting product is not very effective at keeping leaves out of your gutters for very long. Many are the times we have been asked to clean out overflowing gutters that had this type of wire in place on top of them.
“Mesh,” on the other hand, is usually short for “micro mesh,” invented and patented by Alex Higginbotham. A number of companies license this technology from him and sell their own version of micro mesh under their own brand name.
Alex’s micro mesh which NC Gutter Guys, Inc. can install for you is all metal – it has no plastic or vinyl parts components that can easily bend or break like some of the products from his competitors. The product we use is made in America and comes completely ready to install right out of the box from the factory. No pieces or parts have to be assembled and added to it at the job site before installing it as competitors must do – this is because our factory has already taken care of every aspect of the product.
NC Gutter Guys, Inc. also provides you with a free gutter cleaning (and we bag and haul the leaf debris away), and also a free basic gutter system ‘tune up’ if your gutters need that. Our competitors charge big bucks for these things, especially for ‘tune ups.’
We are factory certified installers equipped with specialized tools designed to cope with any situation that we might encounter. The micro mesh we use is not a DIY screen that can be found in a store.
The photo below clearly shows the difference between a piece of micro mesh gutter guard at the top of the picture and a piece of bent and rusted wire screen below it.
