A gutter system is a must-have on any home. The system helps protect the roof, siding and the very foundation of your home by catching the excess rainwater from roof run-off and directing in away from your home. But just as it’s true that what goes up must come down, after gutters goes up on the house, they must be cleaned periodically (two to four times a year depending on the trees in your area).
Cleaning gutters is a DIY job that requires a little elbow grease, no fear of heights and several hours of your time. But there is a better way. Have gutter guards installed over your gutter system. The gutter guards can be installed over existing gutters or installed at the same time as new gutters are put into place. The guards will prevent debris, like leaves and twigs, from entering the gutters and clogging them. Nothing goes into the gutters except clear rain water so cleaning them is no longer required.
If you install gutter guards you will save time during the year because you won’t have to clean your gutters. What will you do with that saved time is totally up to you, but we do have a few suggestions:
- Go fishing in one of the many lovely lakes or streams North Carolina has to offer. You know what they say about fishing – A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work.
- Take your kids for a day trip of hiking or combine it into a day of hiking on up a North Carolina mountain ridge and an overnight camping trip on top of the mountain.
- If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy, so you can use the time saved from not having to clean your gutters to do something else on your ‘Honey-Do’ list. Paint the house, plant some flowers, wash the car or whatever other chore Momma has been nagging to get done.
- Put up a hammock and pour yourself a tall glass of iced sweet tea and just kick back and relax. Life can’t all be work and no play, enjoy a little of that time you saved. After all, you made the wise decision to install gutter guards, so enjoy the fruits of your non-labor idea.
